Pregnancy Update: 28 Weeks! Third Trimester!!

Monday, January 20, 2014

It's here!! The third trimester!! Everyone has told me that the second trimester was most enjoyable in their experience and I agree so far, and I truly loved it. As I've said before, I have never felt more of my true self until I became pregnant. My little boy has given me a fire & confidence in my life that I have never experienced. I can't wait to meet him in just 12 short weeks!!

I have finally started to steadily put on weight over the past month or so, which is awesome for baby! Sometimes though, I find that I give myself the "pregnancy excuse" when I'm craving sweets, chowing down on way more than what's within moderation. I want to gain weight healthily from fruits, veggies & whole grains, not add pounds to my bum that are pure chocolate! I'm not obsessive about becoming "fat" because I'm pregnant! I love my body now and I have no problem getting bigger overall, but it just doesn't make me feel good when I'm not nourishing my body with real, healthy foods. Do you know what I'm saying?

As I prepare to pack on another 15lbs or so, I'm also preparing for baby in every other way imaginable. Reading baby sleep & brain development books; researching about labor, breastfeeding and what to expect after birth for me & baby, and so much more; stocking up on baby stuff; plus working on a few craft projects, namely sewing a Quiet Book for my little man. Phew! It's sometimes overwhelming! But with 12 weeks until I meet my baby, I love that I am building my confidence about becoming a mom with knowledge & creativity! I just need to work on flexibility and forgiving myself when I can't get everything done in a day! I'm sure plenty of moms out there can relate. ;)

Week: 28 weeks! I can't believe I'm already in the third trimester!!

Gender: Boy!!

Total Weight Gain:
12lbs total!! I definitely thought I would've gained more by this point in my pregnancy. But I love my body, especially the belly!

Exercise: I've been continuing my yoga routine five days a week. The video is just under 30 minutes long, and I add a few stretches & squats before or after the workout. I like this one because it focusing on breathing as well as stretching out and making space for baby. My upper rib pain is virtually gone thanks to yoga!

Nutrition: I've been continuing my breakfast of yogurt with organic berries, a light lunch and snack (usually peanut butter on toast or fruit), and big, satisfying dinners. I've been trying to add more tomato-based dishes into my diet so baby won't hate them like I did as a kid!

Food cravings/aversions:
My tomato mozzarella creation with homemade smoothies! I saute garlic in olive oil and add organic cherry or grape tomatoes (sliced in half) to the pan. I mash them down so that its mushy but the tomatoes are still in tact. I then pour the goodness into a bowl and add salt, pepper & cayenne, and serve with fresh mozzarella & pita chips. Sooo good!

Signs of Stretch Marks: Still using Burt's Bees Belly Butter! Nothing new since last week.

Maternity Clothes: No new ones - I'm a serious shopping slacker because I just don't like it!

Sleep: Getting up every night to go to the bathroom now. My big belly wakes me up and baby's kicking keeps me up sometimes! Oh man, it's only begun!

Feeling: On & off this week. I've been feeling good physically for the most part, but my mood has been a little low this week. My husband has been working later hours and I've also been feeling guilty about my slacking with my blog and blog friends. :/ I really enjoy blogging and the friends I've met here, I've just been so busy trying to get things ready for baby that it was the first thing to give!

Baby Movement: Ouch! My little man has definitely gained weight since last week because he packs a hard punch! He also still has hiccups - so cute!

Belly Button In or Out? In

Wedding Rings On or Off? On

What I miss most this week: Blogging more! Especially not keeping up well with my friends Mrs. Shugar, Nadine, La Maman Heureuse and all of you who have been so sweet to me!

Best moment this week: Whenever I do yoga. It makes me feel so strong & alive!

Looking forward to: Getting my glucose (gestational diabetes) test over with - I had to reschedule it for this coming weekend. :/

Thanks so much for reading & commenting! I really appreciate it even though it has been taking me forever to get back to you! :)

  1. You look absolutely adorable! Those 12 last weeks will fly by so quickly, yet feel like forever at the same time. If you don't feel like blogging, we completely understand. Wait till baby boy arrives LOL Just remember we're always here if you need us :-) And thank you for the sweet mention! Always makes my day when that happens!

Good luck on your glucose test, worst moment of my pregnancy :-s! I'll be thinking of you!

    1. I think to myself, how am I going to handle blogging with a baby if I feel too busy now - crazy! Haha Hopefully I can pull it together one of these days! Thanks for being there & understanding - I appreciate the love :)
As for the glucose test, if the test itself is the worst part of my pregnancy, I'll count myself pretty lucky. I've heard its pretty disgusting from some, not so bad from others. But I haven't had pop in over a decade so I imagine it will be pretty gross for me! Hopefully I don't get sick and everything turns out okay. Thanks for the well wishes! :)

  2. We are at that 3rd trimester mark! Eeep! Hang in there with all the things you want to do. I can completely relate because I want to do so much and ultimately something will not get done. Just managing expectations I guess is important. It's hard when you work full time and have very few hours in the day to just do baby things. Best of luck with you GD test! I know you will be fine because you are super healthy. I would love to hear more about what you have read about brain development. It's so fascinating how everything we eat affects our babies. Missed you too! Not to worry. We are all here when you have time. Hugs, friend!

    1. I agree - I definitely need to manage my expectations. I'm hoping my GD test will go well, its just difficult because as you know, there are no signs! (I hope you're feeling well this week, btw!)
Your recent post, Caring For Baby, actually is inspiring me to do some books reports on those baby brain development books. So thank you! (We'll see what I accomplish haha)
      xo!

  3. Congrats on hitting the 3rd trimester! I'm a little scared to get there, like you said, most people say the second trimester is like a vacation and I'm afraid the exhaustion rolls back around! :)
I hear you on getting things done...I always feel overwhelmed at the thought of my to do list! You look great, I need to take you as an example and eat healthier...lol. Good luck with the GD test, it will be over before you know it!

    1. I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling overwhelmed at times! Who would've thought there is so much that goes into preparing for a baby - it doesn't just pile on when he arrives. There is always more info to learn, its crazy!
Thanks so much! It means a lot that you would see me as an example, and actually inspires me to be better for myself! So sweet! I'm definitely not perfect, I eat plenty of cheese and chocolate, but its a lot easier than it seems to get into a healthy eating routine after you break the cycle of bad eating habits. Breaking that cycle is the hardest part.
I hope you're feeling well! Love reading your updates! :)

  4. Great blog. Congrats! You've had the baby since this post. Such a great way to journal your experience and memories. I didn't blog my pregnancy, but read the week-by-week development books and things like that. I just came across a new book that's really awesome and even takes it up another notch called “The Wonder Within You: celebrating your baby’s journey from conception to birth” by Carey Wickersham. It’s an awesome combination of week-to-week pregnancy information, what’s going on with the baby, “Did you know?” plus health advice about what to eat, cravings, nutrition, etc, BUT also with awesome 3D/4D pictures and videos you can link or QR with your phone to and see what your baby looks like at each week stage. Even better than the typical week-to-week books, and so personal! It’s got mom stories and even a journal/note section to write your personal memories and letters to your baby. The pregnancy information is as up-to-date as it gets and it’s such a great keepsake. I want to get one for everybody I know who is expecting! I highly recommend it! TheWonderWithinYou.com.

  5. My Tummy design and create beautiful maternity and breastfeeding clothes in Europe. They're on trend and are great for going out or for breastfeeding wear. Some of the tops have designs on the bump which is so sweet, and the stretchy fabrics mean the clothes can be worn throughout pregnancy without worrying they'll get too tight. The new summer collection features maternity trousers, tops and breastfeeding dresses too.
