Pumpkin Hunting!

Monday, September 30, 2013

Tis the season to visit a pumpkin patch! I love fall. Fall crafts, fall baking, fall activities - and its even more fun with kids! My husband & I went up to Vermont last weekend to visit family and spend time with our adorable toddler niece at the pumpkin patch! She was so cute, trying to pick up pumpkins that were too heavy for her, grunting "errrr" and "uurrhhh!" Here are a couple snapshots from our trip. :)

Setting aside all HER pumpkins! She wanted to do it all by herself. :)

You can barely tell, but Stella is waving a dog toy at her puppy below. She loves puppies!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...

I lovermont. And fall. What else should we do this fall? We used to go apple picking and carve pumpkins, but its harder to do in a small apartment with no outdoor space in a city! What are you doing to celebrate the season? I need some ideas!

September in Boston

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

I want to be frank with all of you. I really don't like living in Boston! I know there is so much history and culture to explore here, but I have found myself missing Vermont so much lately.

Vermont is the first place I lived since leaving my family. Its where I went to college, and where I met and fell in love with my husband. Its where I worked on a farm for a summer. Its where my husband and I started gardening, and where he proposed to me at one of those gardens. Its is where we ran our first business together. Its where my husband grew up. Vermont is where we got married.

I didn't realize how hard it would be to leave that place. By my sixth year in the state, I felt I was ready for a change. Ready to have more job opportunities for myself and my husband. Ready to get started on having a family. I was so anxious to get started, and so ready to leave to be able to do it.

But now that we're in Boston, I miss living in a small town. I miss the mountains. I miss the quiet of life in Vermont. I miss being in a places where I would love to bring my kids one day. My heart tells me that this is the place we belong.

So I talked to my husband about it. I want to be supportive of his career, knowing that he can't turn around immediately and quit his job. To my surprise, he was completely on board! He told me he never truly wanted to leave in the first place, he just wanted me to be happy. I was so happy I cried. Hopefully we can make the transition back to our beloved state within the next year, if all goes well!

Have you ever lived in a place where you feel like that is where you belong? Did you have to move to realize what you were missing? Do you just love the newness & adventure of moving around? Please share with me! I love hearing from all of you. :)

Family Vacation!

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Every summer, my husband's family gets together for a week long vacation. Its a big group, rounding out at around thirty people with his mom's entire side of the family in attendance. But its great to see the family we otherwise only see all together at Thanksgiving!

My husband & I before dinner one night.

With my adorable niece, Stella, on a boat ride!

With my niece and sisters-in-law. Stella was happy a second before all the photos, I swear!

Does your family have reunions? My mom's side has reunions sporadically, but not usually within a ten year span. However, now that all my cousins are getting older, hopefully we'll all get together more often at weddings! If your family doesn't do reunions, do you wish you had large family reunions or are small vacations more favorable to you? I enjoy both, but time with my husband is most precious to me!

All photos taken my mother-in-law or sister-in-law and edited by me.

Our First Wedding Anniversary

Thursday, September 12, 2013

This August, my husband & I celebrated our first wedding anniversary! I'm sure everyone says this, but I can't believe it's already been a year.

I remember all too well the stress of executing all the wedding plans last summer. We lived in a 400 square foot apartment on the second floor without air conditioning, and I shut myself in the bedroom so my husband couldn't see my dress as I sewed buttons all down the back. I look back and think how cool it was that I was able to make amendments to my dress to make it more unique, but also how crazy I was to sew in 98 degree room with a 40 pound gown draped over my legs.

By the time my wedding day arrived, I felt in such a whirlwind that it was hard to believe what was happening. Until I started to put my dress on. From that moment until the end of the ceremony, I did all I could to not burst into happy tears. As I walked to my future husband down the slope of a grassy mountain on a cloudless day, it was as if he was the only person I saw.

After the ceremony, we were both still in so much shock that we were actually married, but so overwhelmed with the love from our friends and family surrounding us. Our wedding was less than 50 people, but we still had a crazy dance party that went on and on. I'm so happy I was able to let go of being such a control freak to enjoy the evening. Looking back, despite all the work it took to get there, it truly was the greatest moment of my life so far.

What was your favorite part about your wedding? Or if you're planning on getting married, what do you want it to be like? Ours was outside on a mountain in Vermont, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Some people love the city lights and I've seen sooo many awesome ideas on Pinterest for all styles. What's one thing you will definitely not skip when it comes to your special day?
