Breakfast Of Champions

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Today's breakfast is so healthy, its inspiring me already to get exercising today! Not to mention how simply delicious it is. YUM!
Just Watermelon, hashtagnofilter.

Grape Medley from Trader Joe's. I don't think I had ever tried black grapes until I bought these, and now they are my favorite! They're just more flavorful overall.

The best thing about this breakfast: these fruits are not only loaded with vitamins, but they are filled with water, so this breakfast keeps you hydrated & feeling fuller, longer. So go get some! Enjoy! :)

Moving Day!

Monday, June 24, 2013

Today is moving day! My husband and I are moving from Vermont to Massachusetts today. Its a little bittersweet since Vermont is where we met, where we went to college together, where he proposed, and where we got married. So many memories in the Green Mountains.

But at this same time, its exciting to make a change! I'm looking forward to a new apartment and a new city with new food & places to explore! Any suggestions for good restaurants in or around Boston? I love spicy food, especially Thai, and my husband could eat Mexican everyday. But we also love Italian, Greek, French, whatever! We especially love local spots. I can't wait to explore!

Please give me suggestions in the comment section below!

When You're Happy And You Know It: Smile!

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I. love. the Shaytards. They are an adorable family of six (soon to be seven!) who post daily videos on Youtube. The head of the family, Shay Carl, is on a mission to promote happiness, and encourages his audience to make positive changes in their own lives and to choose happiness. They inspire me more than I can describe.

Over the past year since being introduced to the Shaytards, I have realized how much of a choice my own happiness is, and that I need to try harder everyday to make myself more content with my life. Some days, its easier than others, but in general, I really do believe that happiness is something that you have to actively work on everyday. When I have a hard time, I watch a video of this happy family, and that makes me smile.

Find what makes you happy and do it! Today is the first day of the rest of your life! Why wait to be happy?

This whole video is great, but the ending especially, thanks to Babytard! When you're happy and you know it, SMILE!

Random Acts of Kindness

Monday, June 17, 2013

Today my husband went to visit his brother, and it was one of those times that I was torn because I wanted to go, but I don't want to take away from their "brother time." When he came home, my husband had a flower in hand for me, from my brother-in-law! It was so sweet not only because it was a beautiful flower, but I was just so grateful that someone thought of me. It seriously made my day!

I suppose it's not totally a "random"act of kindness, since it wasn't from a stranger, but either way, I was touched by the random thoughtfulness and kindness of my family. It inspired me to want to do the same, pay it forward, and make someone else's day. The question is, what to do? Do you have any suggestions or ideas that are creative, low cost ways to pay kindness forward? Please comment and let me know!

Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life

Even though it was a rainy day here in Vermont, I have promised myself that I will make no excuses to avoid being healthy! Over the past 10 months, I had gained 20lbs. Three months ago, I decided I needed to make a change to feel better about myself, and today I stand just 2lbs short of losing all the weight I had gained. I wasn't happy that I let myself go, but losing nearly 20lbs has inspired me to be healthier than I ever was before.

There is no special sauce to losing weight. Eating well (not too much, mostly plants) and exercising consistently have been the keys to my weight loss success.
Some people love sweets, but personally, I love cheese. If I want to indulge with some cheese, I choose mozzarella or feta (lower fat) rather than brie. I don't eat myself sick, but I don't fret about a few calories here or there. Moreover, I have chosen to eat more healthy overall, including adding a daily homemade smoothie to my routine.
When it comes to exercising, consistency has been so crucial for me. If I take more than one day off, I feel much more sluggish, heavy, and weak, which makes me less motivated to work hard that day. This isn't the case for everyone, but I still believe that consistency is key. If I miss a day, I don't stress, but I don't let myself make more excuses the next day.

Each day is a new day, and today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Today's workout was some light running in the sprinkling rain with some squats, push ups and abs. Today's lunch was my usual smoothie plus a simple spinach salad.

Two cups water, juice from half a lemon, between 1-2 cups spinach, 2 bananas, organic frozen mango & organic frozen blueberries. Yum!

Spinach with olive oil, fresh ground pepper, cayenne (because everything I eat must have some spice) & topped with a few sesame sticks to add a little bit of crunch and salt (not too much!).
